When in Rome...

Where's my money? (Caaaaspa)

Sorry for the late posting mis amigos, I've pretty busy AND hungover from last night's festivities which were indeed debaucherous. Another day, another dollar and we just keep moving to the beat. Now, John. Roman. Wow. This kid makes the hardest most aggressive hitting dance music I have yet to hear and these original songs by this teen prodigy are ludicrously good. Remember the name, John Roman, he is going to be HUGE in 2010 and hope to see him at some major rave events especially in SoCal. Listen to these hard hitters...

John Roman - Carnivores
John Roman - Martyr
John Roman - Ready For This
John Roman - Who's Afraid of Cornelius
John Roman - Warp It Down (Bloody Beetroots v. Laidback Luke v. A-Trak)

Who loves Random Remixes? Everyone. Duh.

Let your love grow tall (Passion Pit),

Enough is enough, thus I've decided to curtail the dubstep posts (sorry dubsteppers, it's only for a while) and show some awesome remixes to some random songs. We got a remix from 2009's breakthrough band and on top of everyone's album of the year list (Merriweather Post Pavillion), ANIMAL COLLECTIVE. Awesome band, if you didn't catch their album I recommend definitely picking it up and giving it a listen.

Another remix that I decided to post is a golden oldie with a hard new twist. Robin S.'s Show Me Love was an absolute ginormous hit and Afrojack's remix makes a great song that much better with a much needed electro-hard house feel.

John. Roman. This kid from T-Dot (Toronto) has made pulsing electro-hard house for the past year or so and every song and remix he has put out has such a edge to them that you can tell it's a John Roman song. Here's a remix he did of Boys Noize's Kontact Me.

Kid Cudi's "Man On The Moon: The End Of The Day" was one of the biggest albums of 2009, and Steve Aoki's remix of Pursuit of Happiness has got to be one of the most massive synth heavy party tunes that I have ever heard. Play this song at full volume and tell me you and your homies won't be dancing.

Royksopp is a Norwegian electronic duo that burst onto the scene during 2009 as well with their acclaimed drop "Junior". This remix is paralyzing with its driving bass, and Boys Noize is one of the dirtiest DJs out there right now and this remix shows why...

And last but not least, yet another break out band of 2009 was The XX and this remix of their song Shelter by little known Death to the Throne is an absolute dance hit. Sounds nothing like the original and but still captures the essence of the original while putting an electronic twist on it.

Saved By The Bell.

In the flowers... (Animal Collective),

I know the wobble streak has to come to a stop soon but AC Slater's wobble is danceable and better yet just makes you bend over backwards with the mega bass in your face. This guy is from Brooklyn, NY and these original songs he's made has crunch by the bunch and has mind-warping wobble. (These are original terms I have coined to describe dubstep music). It's more an experience than just a song, tune in and check it out for yourself and get ready to have your spine broke.

We got da BASS. and he's got the NECTAR.

Jump UP!! (Crookers),

Seems like my obsession with dubstep and wobble and spine crunchers isn't going to stop... so I'm going to re-introduce Bassnectar. Introduce him to the people who haven't heard him and I'm giving you three fiery tracks that you fans haven't heard yet. Bassnectar is a DJ from the Yay Area that has been spinning mega bass wobbley funk for a while now. Take a listen and enjoy.

Pixies - Where Is My Mind (Bassnectar Remix)
Fever Ray - When I Grow Old (Bassnectar Remix)
Bassnectar - Cozza Frenzy (Bassnectar's Mega Bass Remix)

You can now directly DL the songs by right clicking on the title and clicking "save as"

London DUB

Everybody in the place (The Prodigy),

Yesterday I posted Caspa's banger My Pet Monster and he along with several other dub step don's from the UK (Rusko, Skream, Benga) have made this genre HUGE. And here is yet another London dubstepper named Emalkay, and it's tougher to say which has more wobble; his original mix, When I Look At You, OR Sduk's remix to it... check it out for yourself.

I ain't Chinese, but I do love DUCK SAUCE.

Happy Up Here (Royksopp),

Another day, another post. This was on everyone's top songs of 2009 but I still feel a lot of people haven't heard or seen this amazing collaboration of Armand Van Helden & A-Trak who ARE Duck Sauce. The new duo are signed to A-Trak's label Fool's Gold and their song aNYway is a saucy blend of feel good soul on top of a mega dance track bassline. I'm sure all of y'all will enjoy. The video's pretty damn awesome too, check it out...

ZEDS.DEAD = wobble

So Here We Are (Bloc Party),

ZEDS muhf*ckin' DEAD. DC & Hooks two former hip-hop DJs have made the full conversion to electronic music or more specifically creating some supersonic wobble a.k.a. dubstep. These two have made some incredible remixes that will SHRED your speakers a new hole... if your speakers had holes... well I guess the bass woofer speaker thingy does... but whatever, you get the point. Amazing stuff from these two new dubsteppers.

Here are four tantalizing remixes that'll crush your audio system..

We. Love. ANIMALS!

We Are Your Friends (Justice),

CROOKERS are the Italian mega duo that are on top of the fidget house sub genre right now along with The Bloody Beetroots. These italians have exploded on the scene around 2007 and have pounded out dance remixes and original works that have had us fist pumping for quite a while now. And if you didn't know these guys know you should. They signed up the help of Soulwax and Mixhell to make this fidget house mega mix.

Raaaawr.

Ready For This (John Roman),

So as you can tell I've been on a dubstep streak of late and boy, this shit whomps. And if you don't know what whomp means, the official definition is: speaker blowing bass. This is the EPITOME of all that is dubstep and everyone's favorite ghost, Caspa, brings us this dubstep wobblefest from the UK. Check him he's one of the forefathers of the dubstep sub genre.

CAUTION: This might be TOO much wobble.

Massive Wompage

Hello (AC Slater),

Dubstep is raging on to all dancefloors across the world, it's the newest form of electronic and has more spine-crunching bass and wobbley goodness that you can handle. Here's dubstep magician Borgore and his remix of Britney Spears smash single Womanizer.

*Blog Profile: Gotta Dance Dirty*

Whatup Yall (Crookers),

Who wants to DANCE DIRTY all night long? Well, today’s post is going to profile another electronic music blog that is better known and is more frequently visited. The blog is called Gotta Dance Dirty. The blog is written by an anonymous poster that goes by the name of Jonah, other than his name no much else is known about the author. Knowing the author’s credibility or authority on the topic is relatively unknown since the author does not disclose any personal information. This blog is related to mine because it pretty much covers the same topics as my blog will cover minus the music culture and discussing of controversial topics that surround the genre of electronic music. The author posts a blog roughly every 2-4 days and the posts usually discuss new artists, songs, remixes, music videos and other trends or newsworthy topics surrounding the genre. The blog is pretty popular, but to know exactly how popular is difficult because the blog does not have a hit counter and is not rated on technorati.com. However, this blog must be fairly well known because the website exclusively promotes several club events that they coordinate and put together. These Gotta Dance Dirty showcases which feature several up and coming unknown DJs have been a hot ticket to get in Los Angeles. Also, since the majority of the events occur in LA, I’m going to assume that the author is a native of the LA greater area.

This particular blog relates well to my blog because like stated earlier it encompasses the same things that I am going to discuss except the social commentary. This blog is not scholarly or academic but is fairly professional. Legitimate songs from artists are sent to this blog site so their songs can be heard online by fans and the blog is aggregated and a lot of other music blog aggregators, which usually only aggregates the top hitting blog sites. The posts themselves are not that detailed or rich, they are more like small descriptions of the songs, albums and artists that they post about. The posts have a little bit of personal opinion since the author interjects his own thoughts on the posted material on top of the description that the author provides. Here is an example post:

Sorry for the late post this week guys! We are having an unbelievable night tomorrow night with the amazing master of warehouse soundZodiac Cartel, along with one half of new electro duo Bass Weazal, Will Bailey.Circuit Freq and Mr. White will both also be doing sets in the big room as to promote the new track "The Filth" which was remixed by all acts that will be in the Avalon tomorrow night. Check out all of the new remixes onBeatport. I have posted the Mr. White remix in this post if you want to check that one out for free :)

Tomorrow night all you dirty dancers that are over 21 will be entering through the Honey Lounge entrance which is the left side entrance if you are staring at the front of the Avalon. All you youngin's still enter through the main entrance and there will be a GDD™ list there for you as well. We will not be doing The House Party room but rather we will be teaming up with our good friends at BBE and Everyday in the Legit Lounge to give you the best music experience possible. Bring your danceypants!

Here the author is talking about an event that the website, Gotta Dance Dirty, put on in local LA venue, The Avalon. Not that detailed, primarily descriptive, but also nice and short and to the point. The audience that this blog is reaching out to is anybody that is a fan of electronic music and enjoys hearing new artists and going to concerts that the blog site puts on.

This blog will primarily feed my music interests and have commentaries on new music releases, upcoming concerts, and the author’s opinion on new material. My site is going to differ in the sense that not only will I be discussing new music and artists but the culture surrounding the electronic music genre and provide a fresh commentary on what I think about it and hopefully create worthwhile material to read about.

*FIST PUMPS & CLUB DRUGS! YEAH!!!*

Hello World,

Welcome to Fist Pumps & Club Drugs, a blog site dedicated to discussing the hot and controversial topics surrounding the electronic music genre and electronic music culture. This blog will cover issues that will range from internet piracy to ecstasy usage at raves, and controversial music videos to the popular emergence of the genre of electronic music as a whole. Some of the issues involved with the electronic music scene include important political issues as well such as piracy, copyrights and remixes, and creative rights to digital and unofficial releases. These issues are important to all genres of music because they deal with artists’ rights and the future health of the music industry in terms of record sales. Other issues that arise from the electronic music are the constant murmurings about the drug usage involved with raves. This is a touchy subject because it involves the peoples’ “right to party” and legal issues surrounding the drugs themselves.

Why Fists Pumps & Club Drugs? That’s easy. Two words. JERSEY-SHORE. These fun loving guidos have made fist pumping synonymous with euro-trash machine techno and I thought it be good for publicity to play off MTV’s smash-hit TV show. And club drugs, well the electronic music genre is notoriously associated with frequent drug usage at electronic concerts (raves) and drugs are racy and controversial so I decided to throw that in there to spice it up. Aaaaand they slant rhyme and it’s a nice little catch phrase. There’s my long-winded explanation as to the name of this awesome blog site.

What makes my perspective different? Well frankly speaking as a college student who has been a fervent fan of electronic music since its inception (some say Daft Punk some say Soulwax, we can discuss that later) to the recent popular emergence of the genre, which has broken through to the mainstream and radio, I feel that because of my listening history I am fairly qualified to discuss these issues. I am also a frequent rave go-er and am continually following new music and artists on other music blog sites. I am also an amateur DJ that pretty much exclusively plays electronic music sprinkled in with a little bit of top 40.

What makes this blog different? This is not your typical music site that is going to post new music or review albums, but rather a comprehensive music and culture website that will not only talk about interesting musical developments but also relevant social commentaries on the genre, the making of the music, the music industry, and the “rave” scene. This blog will combine an introspective look into the world of electronic music and be voiced by a college aged music lover that is deeply entrenched in the genre.

Also all genres of electronic will be discussed, from trance to drum & bass to progressive house to fidget house. Some of my favorite artists include Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Deadmau5, Boys Noize, John Roman and Rusko. Some other artists that I really like that are not electronic music artists are Bloc Party (the greatest band ever), XX, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, Empire of the Sun, Animal Collective, and Phoenix. Comment on what you think, what you expect, what you want to read about and other bands/artists that you love.

Love, Peace, & Chicken Grease,
