*FIST PUMPS & CLUB DRUGS! YEAH!!!*

Hello World,

Welcome to Fist Pumps & Club Drugs, a blog site dedicated to discussing the hot and controversial topics surrounding the electronic music genre and electronic music culture. This blog will cover issues that will range from internet piracy to ecstasy usage at raves, and controversial music videos to the popular emergence of the genre of electronic music as a whole. Some of the issues involved with the electronic music scene include important political issues as well such as piracy, copyrights and remixes, and creative rights to digital and unofficial releases. These issues are important to all genres of music because they deal with artists’ rights and the future health of the music industry in terms of record sales. Other issues that arise from the electronic music are the constant murmurings about the drug usage involved with raves. This is a touchy subject because it involves the peoples’ “right to party” and legal issues surrounding the drugs themselves.

Why Fists Pumps & Club Drugs? That’s easy. Two words. JERSEY-SHORE. These fun loving guidos have made fist pumping synonymous with euro-trash machine techno and I thought it be good for publicity to play off MTV’s smash-hit TV show. And club drugs, well the electronic music genre is notoriously associated with frequent drug usage at electronic concerts (raves) and drugs are racy and controversial so I decided to throw that in there to spice it up. Aaaaand they slant rhyme and it’s a nice little catch phrase. There’s my long-winded explanation as to the name of this awesome blog site.

What makes my perspective different? Well frankly speaking as a college student who has been a fervent fan of electronic music since its inception (some say Daft Punk some say Soulwax, we can discuss that later) to the recent popular emergence of the genre, which has broken through to the mainstream and radio, I feel that because of my listening history I am fairly qualified to discuss these issues. I am also a frequent rave go-er and am continually following new music and artists on other music blog sites. I am also an amateur DJ that pretty much exclusively plays electronic music sprinkled in with a little bit of top 40.

What makes this blog different? This is not your typical music site that is going to post new music or review albums, but rather a comprehensive music and culture website that will not only talk about interesting musical developments but also relevant social commentaries on the genre, the making of the music, the music industry, and the “rave” scene. This blog will combine an introspective look into the world of electronic music and be voiced by a college aged music lover that is deeply entrenched in the genre.

Also all genres of electronic will be discussed, from trance to drum & bass to progressive house to fidget house. Some of my favorite artists include Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Deadmau5, Boys Noize, John Roman and Rusko. Some other artists that I really like that are not electronic music artists are Bloc Party (the greatest band ever), XX, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, Empire of the Sun, Animal Collective, and Phoenix. Comment on what you think, what you expect, what you want to read about and other bands/artists that you love.

Love, Peace, & Chicken Grease,
